About Calvary Chapel: Calvary
Chapel Ann Arbor is
part of an association of over 1,300 Calvary Chapels worldwide that
provides encouragement and accountability.
The first Calvary Chapel, pastored by Chuck Smith, began in Costa
Mesa, CA in the 1960's and found itself in the middle of a wonderful
outpouring of God’s grace in which thousands of young people came to
faith in Christ. Calvary Chapel is not a hierarchical denomination; rather, it is an association of like-minded churches held together by a common faith, a common philosophy of ministry, and by genuine Christian love. At the heart of Calvary Chapel is a passion to know God through heartfelt worship and verse-by-verse Bible teaching and to rely upon Him for daily strength and guidance. About Calvary Chapel Ann Arbor: This
is an exciting time for Calvary Chapel Ann Arbor!
Our current ministry focus is “being the family of God” and
is based on the fact that we are called to be a place of encouragement
and support in many practical ways.
For example, our men’s and women’s groups are providing
practical help to those in need. Second,
we are offering a “Fireproof Group” (based on the Christian film
“Fireproof”) to strengthen marriages.
Third, we are putting in place a strong Sunday morning nursery
and children’s ministry. Fourth,
we are extending family hospitality to international students by hosting
special events. Fifth, we
are starting a building fund so that we as a church family can move
toward having a “home” of our own.
And lastly, we are sending out our first missionaries (to Uganda) to strengthen others and possibly someday start a brand new “church
family” on the other side of the globe! Our Mission: Win · Build · Send Simply
stated, our mission is to win, build and send.
We base our mission on the Great Commission found in Matthew
28:18-20 (see below). WIN:
We participate with the Holy Spirit as He brings people to faith
in Christ. We pray, share
our faith, participate in outreach
events, and purpose to be an example to those around us. BUILD:
We help build up believers through verse-by-verse Bible teaching,
heartfelt worship, prayer, fellowship, etc. SEND:
We purpose to send people out as missionaries, church planters,
and lights in our daily settings. May
we shine brightly in a dark and spiritually needy world and be used by
God to reach lost people. “And
Jesus came and spoke to them saying, 'All authority has been given to Me
in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the
nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of
the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have
commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the
age.' Amen.”
Our Heart: To Love God · To Love people Our
heart is to love God and to love people. Jesus
taught that the commandments of Scripture are rooted in two foundational
commands: to “love the
Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind” and to “love your
neighbor as yourself” (see Matthew 22:36-40 below).
Thus, our desire at Calvary Chapel Ann Arbor is to cultivate a
heart characterized by love for God and love for people. Love
for God is wholehearted and is marked by a willingness to follow Jesus,
no matter what the cost. Love for people is genuine and unconditional (no strings attached) and is marked by a willingness to forgive, serve, and sacrifice for others. Love such as this is a work of the Spirit in our lives (Gal. 5:22). "Teacher,
which is the great commandment in the law?"
Jesus said to him, "'You shall love the Lord your God with
all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.'
This is the first and great commandment.
And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as
yourself.'
On these two commandments hang all the Law and the
Prophets." Related Links: - For the Calvary Chapel Association website, click here. - To search for a Calvary Chapel anywhere in the world, click here. |
